The picture BELOW was taken in the car park of RIVIERA LIDO HOLIDAY CLUB   Now a very large housing estate at Pagham(near Bognor Regis)West Sussex July 1960. If you look closely there is pile of dirt by my feet,it was the result of what they call nowdays an incident!  About a mile from the camp I took a bend a shade too fast. mounted a bank and went through a horse chestnut fence and parted company with the Zundapp.  I ended up on my back on top of someone’s prize rhubarb laughing!! So I knew I was ok!  It would have been a differant story a few months later ,as the chestnut fence was replaced with a six foot high brick wall!  My first lesson learnt.  Also I am glad to say the Zundapp  wasn’t damaged, and it went on to give me an  utterly reliable bike and much pleasure for the next 18 months. Unknowingly at that time , the little Zundapp had instilled in me a liking for German motorcycles, which is still with me almost fifty years later.

  1. Great pictures! My Dad had a Zundapp 200S when I was growing up, but he unfortunately binned it after a dealer had replaced an inner tube without replacing the rim tape.. inevitably the rear tyre went down and so did Dad.
I got it fixed up when I was working and gave it back to him but it was never the same. After he died it was scrapped without my knowledge, and I’ve been after getting one ever since to foster my memories.
I’d love to see one again in the flesh if you’re in the UK?

    • Hi Steve Thanks for your warm comments !allways like to know someone is enjoying the blog site.Yes i am in the UK about 10 miles from Brighton. The ‘Adler to Zundapp club’ its a group of friends with German bikes. We are stretched all over the country, but we make a effort to put on a show of German bikes twice a year Kempton Park classic show in May and the West Kent international 2 day event in the first weekend of August a 200S will be on show at both events.
For obvious reasons i know where most of the 200S/201S zundapps are,and if any are for sale! if you are really keen to have one let me know you can recone paying about £1250…£1500 for a good one.
Cheers safe riding and merry christmas Bernie, Bernies bike Shed

  2. Hello Bernie,

I was at the VMCC show in Aylesford a couple of weekends ago and I met Jim a DKW, Guzzi, and Enfield owner from just round the corner from me in Ditton, Kent. Annoyingly I subsequently broke my phone and lost his number. Would you be able to put me in contact with him? I’m Roly and was there with my son Sam, we had a chat about the Victoria Bergmeister on the stand and Jim’s Enfield.

My name is Alan I bought my 200s around ’59 £105 from Grays of Chatham TXM 265 and rode it all over until I got married in 1962 .It was kept at South Park Road Maidstone .I took my bride out for a ride on my wedding day then a little while after gave it to a friend. by this time the exhaust was getting very rusty and I could not afford the cost a new one , I ride Douglas now but wished I still had one .. It used to fourstoke like mad on tick over and the spare part agents where in Petersfield rode there many times…Regards Alan.
